As ensign still enrolled at Academy, began first starship posting, 2242. Between 2242 and 2264, served on 8 starships, including a stint as an engineering advisor on the asteroid freight run from planet Deneva.
In 2264, as lieutenant commander, first assignment to Chief Engineer of U.S.S. Enterprise (NCC-1701), under Captain James T. Kirk. Served with distinction; made numerous improvements to efficiency of Enterprise engines. Injured in explosion aboard Starship Enterprise, 2267; during therapeutic leave on Argelius II, was charged with three counts of capital murder. Subsequent investigation proved Scott's innocence. Later in 2267, was killed and subsequently resurrected by probe known as Nomad.
In 2269, promoted to commander, oversaw refit of Enterprise at Earth, 2269-71. Promoted to captain, 2285, oversaw test of transwarp drive for U.S.S. Excelsior under Captain James Styles.
In 2285, Assisted Admiral James T. Kirk in theft of Enterprise from spacedock. Subsequently fled with Kirk and crewmates to planet Vulcan; remained in exile on Vulcan until 2286. Returned to Earth with shipmates in stolen Klingon bird-of-prey, and participated in time-travel mission to rescue Earth from alien probe of unknown origin. Cleared of all charges and returned to active duty by the Federation Council, 2286.
In 2293, scheduled for retirement, but recalled into service aboard U.S.S. Enterprise-A for Khitomer peace mission. Assisted in rescue of Federation president from assassination attempt at Khitomer. Later that year,
while attending christening of Enterprise NCC-1701-B, Scott helped save the newly launched starship from destruction by the Nexus temporal ribbon and save El-Aurian refugees from the damaged S.S. Lakul.
Retired in 2294, presumed lost in U.S.S. Jenolen while en route to Norpin Colony; vessel discovered in 2369 to have crashed on surface of a Dyson Sphere. Scott rescued by crew of Enterprise-D from 75-year transporter-signal loop aboard downed Jenolen. Discovered Dyson sphere with Enterprise-D crew. After mission, left ship to roam the Galaxy on his own recognizance in U.S.S. Enterprise-D shuttlecraft Goddard.
